JAH Signal’s handlers say they keep the energetic chanter busy both on and off stage to ensure that he does not go astray.
With most chanters and rappers from his generation battling drug and substance abuse due to inactivity and boredom, they say their plan has been to keep the musician busy.
“We have realised that there was a need for us to keep him busy away from the streets by setting up a private studio for him, where he can record and hold rehearsals,” his manager, Hillary “Punchline” Mutake, said.
“We are aware that most artistes from his generation are battling this new cancer—drug and substance abuse—which has become a menace to us.
“As it stands, we had to make sure that Siggie does not get caught in this web, because we want him to become a role model.
“He has simply complied with what we agreed between him and management.”
Mutake, who has transformed the “Shinga Muroora,” hit-maker’s fortunes, said he is committed to making the singer a professional.
“As management, we make sure that we do the best we can to ensure that the vision we share as a camp comes to pass.
“With him, it is clear—he knows what he wants, and we provide it.”
Besides his busy schedule, Jah Signal also makes time for his family.
“When he is done with recordings or rehearsals, he also has family time. He finds time to play with his baby at home, and it helps with their bonding process. We are not hard on him, but we simply want to make him a better man,” Mutake said,
He also conceded that it is challenging managing one of Zimbabwe’s most booked musicians.
“Jah Signal is among the most booked young musicians in Zimbabwe, and that is why we make sure he remains focused, at all times.
“We have an upcoming tour of the UK in June, and recently we toured South Africa.
“This means his profile is growing with each passing week, and we can’t wait for more to come.”
He added: “By the way, he has interests in mining as a fall-back plan, but it is taxing.
“We are impressed by his vision, which shows that he is really focused on life. It is rare to find young men of his generation with all those dreams in mind, and that shows that we are dealing with a mature person.
“He is ahead of his generation, and we will keep on supporting him.”
Jah Signal started from the bottom in the ghetto and got his major breakthrough through hard work. He enhanced his career through collaborations with other chanters. One of his notable collaborations was “Hamurikwire,” featuring Soul Jah Love, which propelled him to acclaim.
He boasts of a rich catalogue of singles that have made him distinct and a favourite for many over the years.
A huge inspiration to the youth, Jah Signal’s management has done its best to make him a professional.
