EMMANUEL Jalai has described his start to life in the South African Premiership as a dream come true.

He helped Durban City beat Polokwane City 1-0 at Chatsworth Stadium.

It was Jalai’s debut match since his high-profile transfer from Dynamos, where he served as captain for three seasons.

The 27-year-old right-back, known as “Hybrid,” helped Durban City record a clean sheet against a resilient Polokwane side.

The game’s lone goal was scored by Trevor Mokwena in the 19th minute.

Jalai said he was thrilled to make a clean sheet in his debut match for Durban City.

He referred to it as a great start.

“I am thrilled to make my debut with a clean sheet and three points, it’s a great start,” said Jalai.

“I wasn’t nervous, but there was some anxiety being new.

“I just focused on doing the basics right and keeping a clean sheet.

“I am settling in quickly, thanks to the team’s warm welcome. I will keep working hard to make a good impression.”

Durban City have amassed 25 points in 16 outings and will be hoping to continue on their fine run that has seen them win their last two matches.

Jalai’s acquisition is part of a long-term strategy to strengthen the squad.

Club chairman, Farook Kadodia, said Jalai’s international experience, and strong profile, align with the club’s future direction.

“He brings international experience and a strong footballing profile that aligns with the direction of the club.

“We believe he will add depth and quality to the squad as we move forward,” Kadodia said.
