A CEMENT Siding man turned detective and then boxer after allegedly discovering sweet nothings between his wife and her ex on WhatsApp.
Albert Ndlovu (24) pleaded guilty to physical abuse before Bulawayo magistrate Patience Madondo. The matter was remanded to today for sentencing.
Prosecutor Joseph Rugara told the court that on 21 February, Ndlovu went through his wife Percyval Mlauzi’s cellphone and stumbled upon WhatsApp messages showing she was talking to her ex-boyfriend.
The discovery did not sit well with him.
Instead of logging out and cooling down, the court heard that Ndlovu exploded. He practiced his version of mixed martial arts on her.
Ndlovu slapped, punched and kicked Mlauzi. He escalated the violence by hitting her with a beer bottle and thrashing her black and blue with a belt.
Ndlovu hit his wife on the hands, stomach, legs, head and face.
The beating left visible damage.
Percyval reported the matter to the police and was referred to hospital for medical treatment. A medical report was submitted in court as evidence.
The report revealed that her eyes were swollen from the severe assault and her mouth was also swollen with a crack.
In mitigation, Ndlovu told the court that he and his wife had a misunderstanding after he found the messages on her phone, which led to the assault. He assured the court that it would not happen again.
However, magistrate Madondo was quick to point out that what he did was a serious offence. She reminded him that it is a crime to go through someone’s cellphone without their permission.
She indicated that he would be sentenced for his actions.
