Jelly Babie breaks silence on alleged abusive marriage

Bacardi singer and dancer, Jelly Babie (real name Karabo Khakhu), recently opened up about the abuse she allegedly suffered at the hands of her husband, Koketso.

The “Jukulyn” hitmaker shared on her Instagram story that she suffered physical, emotional and financial abuse after she was asked how married life is treating her.

She replied by making a shocking revelation that she wishes she had never got married, and in the next stories, she detailed how she was abused and shared graphic images with bruises on her legs.

“I survived being in an abusive marriage at a young age, but I don’t think I will ever recover,” she wrote.

She admitted that she tried committing suicide multiple times, but she survived and attached a picture of her on a hospital bed.

The 20-year-old singer alleged that her husband manipulated her into giving him money she earned from gigs, which amounts to R2 million, exploiting her financially by making her doubt her own ability to save.

“He manipulated me and told me I can’t save money, I spend a lot, so I must send him my gigs money so we can save money to have a better future, and I did send him all my money for like 2 full years,” she wrote.

Before detailing the alleged abuse, there were circulating rumours that the pair were divorcing just eleven months into their marriage after she shared on Instagram that she was leaving her husband in August 2025

She posted an Instagram Story with a picture of her holding her wedding ring and captioned it “Letting go of my shayla”.

However, it seemed like the couple patched things up as she was spotted with her wedding ring in multiple pictures after saying she was leaving him.

The Bacardi star and her husband tied the knot in 2024 after she posted pictures of her lobola ceremony.

The news of her marriage was not well received by the public, as many believed that she got married at a very young age when she should have focused on her career.

In addition, she rose to prominence in 2023 due to her association with the late Vusi Ma R5.

She has since established her name in the music scene and has also collaborated with many popular artists, including DJ Maphorisa and Pabi Cooper.

Her personal life has always been the centre of attention, and the first time she went viral was when she made a shocking revelation that she made the decision to drop out of school at just Grade 11 to focus solely on her music career.— IOL.
