Zimbabwean musician Jnr Spragga has taken the local music industry by storm after dominating the Apple Music Zimbabwe Top 10 chart.
Six of his songs make the coveted list in a remarkable achievement that has ignited debate among fans over whether he is currently the country’s hottest artist. The latest rankings show Jnr Spragga occupying the first four positions before returning to the chart at number seven and number 10, underlining his growing influence on Zimbabwe’s digital music scene.
His song DAKA sits at the summit of the chart, followed by Ndokudai NeMoyo in second place and Mhuka Huru in third.
Tinodanana claims fourth position, while HOW FAR is seventh and MARULEZ rounds off the Top 10.
The remaining spots are occupied by DJ Maphorisa, Xduppy and Kabza De Small’s Abantwana Bakho featuring Thatohatsi at number five, Ama Hem Hem by Thatohatsi and Sjava featuring ShaunMusiq at number six, Sane Vav’s Mazvokuda at number eight and Hulengende’s Chingonzwisisa Baby (To Millicent) at number nine.
The achievement has generated excitement among music lovers, many of whom believe the numbers reflect Jnr Spragga’s consistency and growing appeal.
Harare music fan Tawanda Moyo said the artist deserved his success after releasing quality music throughout the year. “You don’t dominate a chart like this by accident. People are streaming his songs because they genuinely enjoy them. Right now, Jnr Spragga is setting the pace for everyone else,” he said.
Nomsa Ncube said the chart showed that Zimbabwean listeners were embracing homegrown talent.
“Having six songs in the Top 10 is something we don’t see every day. It proves that local artists can compete and win on digital platforms if they produce good music,” she said.
Another fan, Tafadzwa Chikore, believes the artist has become impossible to ignore. “Everywhere you go people are singing his songs. Whether it’s at parties, in kombis or on social media, Jnr Spragga is the artist everyone is talking about. The chart is simply reflecting what’s happening on the ground,” he said.
Music analysts say streaming platforms have become one of the clearest indicators of an artist’s popularity because they measure what listeners voluntarily choose to play.
For Jnr Spragga, the latest milestone represents another significant chapter in a career that has continued to gather momentum through consistent releases and a growing fan base.
His ability to produce songs that resonate with different audiences has helped him stand out in an increasingly competitive industry, where local artists are also competing against major regional and international acts for listeners’ attention.
While debates over Zimbabwe’s hottest musician are likely to continue, Jnr Spragga’s latest Apple Music achievement gives his supporters plenty of evidence to back their claims.
