THE Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs is conducting its Constitutional Awareness Campaign in Lower Gweru as it intensifies efforts to bring constitutional education to grassroots communities.

The outreach follows a similar engagement in Mberengwa on Tuesday, with the ministry continuing to expand public awareness of the Constitution and its provisions, particularly those relating to citizens’ rights, freedoms and responsibilities.

The campaign seeks to equip communities with a better understanding of the supreme law of the land, promote respect for constitutional principles and encourage citizens to actively participate in governance processes.

Through engagements with residents, ministry officials are expected to unpack key constitutional provisions, including fundamental human rights, access to justice, the rule of law, equality, freedom of expression and the protection of vulnerable groups.

The initiative also provides an opportunity for community members to interact directly with officials, seek clarification on constitutional matters and raise concerns relating to the enjoyment of their rights and access to legal remedies.

The outreach is part of broader efforts to decentralise constitutional education and ensure that people in rural and marginalised communities are not left behind in understanding the legal framework governing the country.

Constitutional awareness remains critical in enabling citizens to appreciate both the rights they are entitled to and the obligations they bear under the Constitution.

The campaign also seeks to strengthen public appreciation of constitutional institutions, promote responsible citizenship and foster a culture of respect for the rule of law.

By taking the programme to communities such as Mberengwa and Lower Gweru, the ministry is bringing constitutional education closer to the people, allowing residents to engage with issues that directly affect their daily lives.

The Lower Gweru outreach is expected to further strengthen community understanding of constitutional governance while encouraging informed participation in national affairs.

The campaign reflects the importance of sustained civic education in building a society where citizens are knowledgeable about their rights and responsibilities and are able to engage constructively with public institutions.
