A century from Innocent Kaia powered Takashinga Patriots 1 to an 88-run triumph over Mbizo in a National Premier League (NPL) fixture at Kwekwe Sports Club on Sunday.
Kaia and Joylord Gumbie (52) shared a 125-run opening stand, with Kaia finishing on 102 off 101 balls, including a six and 12 fours.
Their total of 242 for nine wickets was kept in check by fine bowling from Isaac Okpe, who took five wickets for 45 runs. Graeme Cremer then took four wickets for 21 runs as Mbizo were bowled out for 154.
At Old Hararians Sports Club on Sunday, Takashinga Patriots 2 also enjoyed an easy victory as they beat Eastern Titans by seven wickets.
Titans were bowled out for 113 — highest scorer Tendai Chatara with 22 — three wickets each falling to Daichi Nyandoro and Ryan Simbi.
Takashinga lost two early wickets to Definate Mawadzi, but Kupakwashe Muradze took them to victory with 73 not out off 60 balls.
At Masvingo Sports Club on Sunday, two Queens batters scored fifties in their 84-run victory over Chiredzi. They lost five wickets for 73, but recovered to make 266 all out, thanks to 92 from Munashe Chimusoro and 64 from Tanatswa Bechani.
Chiredzi lost their first three wickets to Chris Mpofu for 15 runs, but Calvin Mubvute’s 83 off 66 balls enabled them to put up a fight with a total of 182.
Mpofu’s figures were four wickets for 25 runs in his eight overs. At Old Hararians Sports Club on Saturday, a remarkable bowling feat of seven wickets for 25 runs by Nickel Kombora hurried Rimuka to a 197-run victory over Westside in their NPL meeting.
Batting first, Rimuka scored 270 for six wickets, with Takudzwanashe Kaitano scoring 71 and Brandon Mavuta 63 not out.
The Westside batters tumbled one after another to the bowling of Kombora, who bowled his eight overs without a break – no batter scored more than 11.
Alexandra Sports Club completed a six-wicket victory over Amakhosi on their home ground on Saturday. Amakhosi, batting first, struggled to 177 for seven wickets, the highest scorer being Blair Morrow with 38.
Alex were never in difficulty beating this score in only 20 overs. Muhammad Anas Aqil, opening the innings, scored 51 off 42 balls, while Faraz Akram made 49 off 30, being dismissed on the verge of victory.
At Masvingo Sports Club on Saturday, a brilliant century from Brian Chari was the highlight of Amakhosi’s 37-run victory over Methane Lions.
Sharing an opening partnership of 117 with Bright Phiri (44), Chari scored 117 off 105 balls, with six sixes and 11 fours, in his team’s total of 282 for seven wickets.
Lions fought well in reply, with Bright Njanji scoring 94 off 81 balls, and the score reached 218 before the fifth wicket fell, but then Talent Dzikiti (three wickets) and Tawanda Maposa (four wickets) broke through and the tail could not complete the task.
Meanwhile, an unbroken second-wicket partnership of 167 between Jarod Basson (88 not out) and Dion Myers (70 not out) took Rangers to an easy nine-wicket victory over Gladiators at Old Georgians Sports Club on Saturday. Gladiators batted consistently to make 200 all out but lacked a big scorer — Munyaradzi Chingoruma (31) was their only batter to reach 20.
Ryan Burl took three wickets for 48 off his nine overs. For Rangers, Tadiwanashe Marumani raced to 22 off 14 balls before he was out, but then Basson and Myers took over and recorded an easy victory.
