YOU expect tactical changes at half-time. You expect substitutions, formation tweaks and a few choice words from the coach.
But at Luveve Stadium last Sunday, Hardrock coach Kelvin “KK” Kaindu appeared to have another adjustment in mind, a wardrobe change!
As his Hardrock charges were busy dismantling Jordan Sinnot FC in their Munhumutapa Cup clash, Kaindu walked into the dressing room at half-time in one outfit and emerged for the second half sporting a completely different look.
The blazer had changed. The trousers had changed.
But the shoes remained exactly the same!
It was a proper half-time fit switch that caught the attention of supporters, adding a touch of fashion drama to an afternoon that already had plenty happening on the pitch.
Kaindu’s first-half outfit was replaced for the second half, with the coach changing both his blazer and trousers while apparently deciding that his shoes were perfectly good enough to see out the afternoon.
“I was putting on the official club regalia in the first and I have change into this suit in the second half. I use this one for preaching (his navy blue suit). If you look at all my pictures, you will notice that,” said the “God fearing” Kaindu with a beaming smile.
If the wardrobe switch was supposed to bring a little extra luck, it certainly did not hurt.
Hardrock continued to boss proceedings after the interval, eventually cruising to an emphatic 5-1 victory over Jordan Sinnot FC in a performance that underlined their growing strength.
While the players were doing the serious business of scoring goals, Kaindu was providing an unexpected sideshow from the technical area.
For the supporters, it was a reminder that half-time adjustments are not always confined to tactics.
Sometimes the coach changes the blazer. Sometimes he changes the trousers. And sometimes, apparently, the shoes are untouchable!
Whatever prompted Kaindu’s fashion switch, it certainly became one of the memorable moments from Hardrock’s impressive afternoon.
The Kwekwe-based side walked away with five goals and a place in the next round, while Kaindu walked away having successfully completed his half-time transformation.
Blazer: changed.
Trousers: changed.
Shoes: maintained.
Scoreline: 5-1!
Now that’s what you call a successful half-time adjustment!
