Phenomenal child celebrity and composer Kayla Thomas has released an accompanying video for her single titled “Trabablas”.
The song appreciates the achievements of the Second Republic, particularly the construction of a world-class interchange in Harare.
Kayla, a Grade 6 student at Warlitec College in Ushewekunze, Harare South, praised President Mnangagwa for the infrastructural developments in Zimbabwe. She also commended Zimbabweans for their patience and loyalty to the President.
“I am a resident of Harare South and one of the people who were impressed by the state-of-the-art interchange established by the Second Republic. I feel lucky and blessed to have witnessed this development taking place.
“I composed this song in appreciation of the President’s leadership, which means a lot to us; going to town has become much easier compared to the era when congestion was a major issue,” she stressed.
Kayla, the daughter of veteran musician Emmanuel Thomas — a former member of the renowned group Frontline Kids — shared that the struggles her father faced returning home from work inspired her to write the song.
“My father used to arrive home late, around 9 or 10pm, due to congestion before the interchange was completed. I often wondered why he was always late, as the traffic was overwhelming. Now, he can get home in just 30 minutes, which has been a blessing for us,” she said.
Kayla, who put herself in the shoes of her father had no choice but to compose the song as a way of giving him strength.
“I felt compelled to compose a song for the President, who has done a remarkable job for us. I am glad we are here today celebrating the achievements of the Second Republic,” she added.
The talented singer, inspired by her mother City Thomas — also a gifted musician — decided to use her talent to show appreciation to the President.
“We are growing in an era where we have the freedom to express our gratitude and feelings. I am fortunate to have parents who encourage me to think positively and love my country. I composed the song ‘Trabablas’ after the completion of the world-class interchange, which was officially launched by President Mnangagwa, and I believe we should all commend him for this.”
She continued: “On that note, I would like to extend my special thanks to Gart Studio, where I recorded my music. I am grateful to my father, Emmanuel Thomas, and Pastor Anthony Gasani, who played the instruments and co-produced the song. I also appreciate Shadreck Mutambiranwa from Vision City, who filmed the video and provided the drone. Mukoma Sam Manjalima added creativity to this project as well.”
Additionally, she expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Excellent Dance Crew, who starred in the video, as well as her fellow students from Warlitec College in Ushewekunze, Harare, who participated in the project.
Beyond this single, Kayla is currently working on a new album scheduled for release next year. She is academically gifted and hopes to become an influencer when she grows up.
