TWELVE-YEAR-OLD rising star, King Alfa Kadiki, has scooped an award at the prestigious Treasure Africa Awards held in Tanzania.
The young artist emerged victorious despite facing competition from nominees drawn from different parts of Africa.
His triumph marks another major milestone in a budding career that continues to attract attention beyond Zimbabwe’s borders.
King Alfa, born Alfred Makombe, said he initially feared that he would not make it because the awards were not decided through public voting, but rather through profile ratings.
“I was afraid that I would not make it because they were not using public voting, but profile ratings,” he said. However, his concerns were put to rest when his profile earned enough recognition to see him emerge as one of the winners at the continental event.
For the young musician, the recognition was more than just winning an award as it represented Zimbabwe on a wider African platform.
“To be considered among artists from across Africa, from Zimbabwe all the way to Tanzania, is something I will always be proud of,” said King Alfa.
The youngster described his participation at the awards as an opportunity to showcase Zimbabwean talent while making his presence felt among other young creatives from across the continent.
“We came, we represented Zimbabwe, and we made our presence felt on an African stage,” he said.
His achievement comes at a time when King Alfa is steadily building a name for himself in the local entertainment industry.
Despite his tender age, the young artist has shown determination to pursue music and establish himself among the country’s emerging talents.
His success in Tanzania also demonstrates the growing opportunities for young Zimbabwean artists to gain recognition beyond the country’s borders.
King Alfa said the significance of the achievement should not only be measured by the trophy he brought home, but also by the recognition he received from an international audience.
“Winning is not only about the award. Sometimes being recognised is already a victory,” he said.
The young star also used the opportunity to appreciate the people who have supported his musical journey and helped push his music to a wider audience.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported us, believed in us and carried ‘Yadeuka Yadeuka’ this far,” he said. King Alfa expressed his love and appreciation for Zimbabweans who have continued to rally behind his career.
“Zimbabwe, I love you,” he said.
The Treasure Africa Awards victory adds another achievement to King Alfa’s growing profile and could open more doors for collaborations, performances and continental recognition.
At just 12, his triumph in Tanzania has already positioned him as one of the young Zimbabwean talents to watch, with his journey demonstrating that age is not necessarily a barrier to making an impact on the African entertainment scene.
For King Alfa, the journey has only just begun, but the Treasure Africa Award has provided a significant platform from which he can continue carrying Zimbabwe’s flag high.
