ZIMBABWE’S Lady Chevrons are set to depart for India today for a training camp ahead of next year’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier in Nepal. As part of their preparations for the global showdown, the team will play warm-up matches against Thailand and Mumbai State.
Zimbabwe secured their place at the Global Qualifier following a dramatic five-wicket victory over Uganda in the semi-final of the Africa Qualifier, before going on to lift the continental crown with a dominant nine-wicket win over Namibia in Windhoek.
Both Zimbabwe and Namibia will represent Africa at the Global Qualifier, which will feature ten teams: Nepal, Thailand, Bangladesh, Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland, United States, Papua New Guinea, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.
The top four teams will earn qualification for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, set to be hosted in England and Wales.
According to team manager Caroline Nyamande, the camp in India is a crucial part of the build-up.
“The girls are leaving tomorrow (today). We are going for a training camp,” said Nyamande.
The Global Qualifier will be played in a round-robin format, followed by a Super Six stage and a final.
