SEARCH, rescue and recovery efforts are continuing this morning on Lake Kariba, where the Mbuya Nehanda ferry capsized near Long Islan as authorities work to account for all those who were on board.
Survivors pulled from the lake have been taken to Mahombekombe Primary School, which has been turned into a temporary holding centre.
Authorities have appealed for clothes and blankets for the rescued, most of whom lost their belongings in the water, as cold weather set in overnight.
Police and army subaqua units remain active on the lake, working alongside the district and provincial Civil Protection Units (CPU) in the search for those still unaccounted for.
Government officials, among them Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Cde Marian Chombo and Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (RIDA) director-general Mr Christopher Shumba, are expected in Kariba this morning to assess the situation and engage affected families.
