THE Legends Night concept broke new ground when it staged its first show here in Johannesburg on Sunday night.
The Joseph Chinouriri-led ensemble, Intotal Band, gave a fine performance which had fans clamouring for more.
Held at the Gold Reef City’s Lyric Theatre, the show was well organised and was worth every rand which the predominantly mature crowd paid to watch the group.
As usual, their track list included hits from legends such as Oliver Mtukudzi, Lovemore Majaivana, Thomas Mapfumo, Simon Chimbetu, Paul Mpofu, among others.
Fans were treated to a live performance by Mitchell Jambo, who played his song ‘‘Rudo’’.
There was also a collaboration with South Africa-based artist Canaan Nyathi. He did a rendition of Charles Charamba’s ‘‘Buruka’’ as well as Mtukudzi’s ‘‘Todii’’?
Respected music guru, Clive Mono Mukundu, was the guest of honour at the event and encouraged fans to support groups such as Intotal.
The group played before a crowd of about 800 and this was partly attributed to the show being on a Sunday.
“We are humbled by the reception that the group received.
“We didn’t know what to expect and to see hundreds of people coming to watch your performance it’s just humbling.
“What we witnessed was unexpected, it was awesome.
“This is our first-ever tour of South Africa and in 2026 we are definitely coming again following this huge success.
“We are planning on having a show here in Johannesburg as well as in Cape Town,” said Chinouriri. Prominent comedian Nigel Maritinyu, who is known as Tha Slick Pastor, was the MC at the event.
