ZIMBABWE’S top amateur golfers — Michael Wallace and Miriam Masiya — finished strongly at the South Africa Golf Amateur Championship at Royal Johannesburg at the weekend.

Masiya proved why she is the next big thing to come out of the country after she finished in eighth place while Wallace was sixth.

Also making the top ten was Keagan Shutt, who finished ninth.

The Royal Harare-based Masiya, playing off two handicap, was among the top performers at the annual international tournament.

Masiya had rounds of 76, 78 and 78.

Wallace had rounds of 71, 72, 69 and 66 while Shutt managed rounds of 74, 70, 70 and 68.

The boys’ section saw Munesu Chimhini, Darlington Chikanyambidze and Vincent Chidambazina making the cut.

Kelvin Muchenje, Elton Zulu and Shepard Chiwaya missed the cut.

Jack Buchanan won the boys section with a 21-under-par total of 267 to top the leaderboard ahead of Ivan Verster, who also finished runner-up at Leopard Creek two years ago.
