SOME students of Mavhudzi High School were barred from boarding buses in Harare for their return to school until they had cut their hair to a certain size.

The teachers said the instructions were clear as to how the male students should cut their hair on their way back to school for the Third Term.

The teachers, who were at the pick-up points for the students in Harare yesterday, demanded to see proof of fees payment and then barred students, whose hair was not cut according to the stipulations, from boarding the buses.

The students were told they would only be allowed to board the buses if they followed the orders from the school authorities.

“Parents, let it be known that you and your children do not impose what you want and school directives must be followed.

“All those with long hair will not enter the bus.

“Go for a further haircut,” a teacher told the students in the presence of the parents. Some students hurried to have their hair cut at barber shops in the capital. Most of their parents remained behind, handling luggage and final arrangements, while the students were getting their hair cut.

Mushumbi High School parents were asked to complete payment agreement forms before their children were allowed to board the buses.

“Haaaa tapinzwawo chikoro chaicho hanzi vasina maridzakakwana nyorai,” one guardian was heard saying.

Meanwhile, Mavuradonha High School authorities converted the bus holding bay into a cash-receiving office where each student’s formalities were processed before boarding the buses.

Some parents were later ordered to repack and reload the students’ luggage, as there was limited space to accommodate all items.

“Please make sure there is one parcel for each child because we have limited space.

“We do not have a trailer, so other parcels may be brought on visiting day,” a teacher told parents.
