Sungura star Alick Macheso has dismissed reports claiming he blocked businessman Wicknell Chivayo from donating cars to some members of his band.
The Makazvinzwepi hit-maker said there had never been any discussion within his camp to stop Chivayo from fulfilling his pledge.
Instead, Macheso said they had been informed that the latest batch of vehicles was on its way from Japan.
“There has never been such a discussion within our camp. We were actually told that the vehicles are on their way, and the latest ones were coming from Japan,” said Macheso.
“We were also assured that sometime next week we will go and collect the Aquas.”
His response comes after reports circulating on social media alleged that he had opposed Chivayo’s planned donations over fears that giving cars to some band members while leaving out others could fuel jealousy and create divisions within the group.
“The stories circulating are not true. Please do not involve or associate our brand with information that is not true or that never came from us,” he said.
The sungura star also expressed gratitude to Chivayo for his continued support, saying the businessman had been generous towards the band and had shown a commitment to honouring his promises.
“We are very grateful for the support we are receiving from Sir Wicknell Chivayo and the good things he is doing for our band.”
In June this year, Chivayo gifted Macheso a Toyota Fortuner after the musician was involved in a road accident while travelling from a musical show in Murewa.
Chivayo subsequently extended the gesture to Macheso’s camp, with the band’s manager, Tich Makahamadze, receiving a Toyota Aqua and US$2 000.
Five Orchestra Mberikwazvo members, together with three dancers, were also promised Toyota Aqua vehicles and US$2 000 each.
