MAD LOOK

ONE of the most famous stadiums in Europe has been transformed into an incredible new home for the NFL.

The Bernabeu in Madrid, Spain, hosted a regular-season game for the first time on Sunday.

The Washington Commanders took on the Miami Dolphins in the historic occasion at the home of Real Madrid.

And the iconic stadium looked stunning as it was set up for American football.

The Bernabeu recently underwent a massive renovation costing around 1.75 billion Euros (£1.55bn).

The historic 84,000-seater stadium is now a fitting stage for 14-time Champions League winners Real Madrid.

The pitch for Sunday’s game was painted with NFL, Dolphins and Commanders logos.

But a video posted by Real Madrid showed the amazing care that went into the turf.

When not in use, it is stored in an underground greenhouse with automated lawnmowers and LED lighting.

Sports reporter Joe Pompliano labelled it “easily the NFL’s best international venue ever.”

And he added: “The sheer scale of the underground system is an engineering masterpiece.” Fans were equally blown away by the stage for Sunday’s game.

One wrote: “Can anyone explain what in the transformer is going on with this field?”

While another said: “Probably the first time I’ll ever watch an NFL game just to see the spectacle of the stadium.

“Best international venue ever is going to make it feel like the biggest international game ever.”

Sunday’s game was the sixth and final fixture played in Europe this season.

The NFL also visited Dublin, Ireland and Berlin, Germany for the first time ever in 2025. And there were three games in back-to-back-to-back weekends in London in October.

All the European games kicked off in the afternoon local time. – Sun.
