Tshibilika music exponent Clement Magwaza, famed for his energy-sapping performances, says it is an honour to be included in the 46th Uhuru Gala celebrations set for Maphisa Growth Point in Matobo District, Matabeleland South Province.

Running under the theme “Zim@46 — Unity and Development Towards Vision 2030,” the musical extravaganza will be held at Minda High School on April 18.

Focusing on Matabeleland South and its creatives, Magwaza — who is riding high with his new album “Indoda yi Umbrella” — will also join other heavyweight performers on the line-up, which includes such music greats such as Socha Moyo, who fronts Black Umfolosi, Jeys Marabini; and Sandra Ndebele.

In an interview with Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub, Magwaza—who hails from Maphisa—promised fireworks.

“Maphisa is my home area, and the people in the community enjoy my music. I will have an added advantage performing in my home area, and this gala means a lot for us, the people of Matabeleland South, who have been longing for this all along,” he said.

“It’s a big occasion that Zimbabweans from all walks of life should cherish. Those coming to the event will surely have a blast, as well as those watching online and on TV.

“I will make sure that my act is tight, as you all know, and I can’t afford to disappoint my fans in Maphisa, who have a lot of faith in my stuff. I will always make sure that I leave the fans awake, because it is my duty to entertain them.”

Magwaza, whose team is based in the area, has been holding thorough rehearsals.

“We are currently busy with rehearsals with my team, and we want to show the world what we are capable of. After all, the event will be broadcast live on TV, and other people will be watching it online. So this is a special occasion that I cannot afford to disappoint the fans. I can only promise fireworks in Maphisa,” he boldly declared.

He also urged fans to turn up in large numbers and fill the venue.

“This is the perfect opportunity for the people of Matabeleland South to come in numbers and celebrate independence as a family. Independence means a lot for us—it is for everybody and not a few selected people. We should all cherish this special holiday and celebrate it together as a family.

“I am calling upon fans to come in large numbers and have fun with us.”

Besides Magwaza, a star-studded line-up is set to perform at the 46th Uhuru celebrations in Maphisa. Other top acts include Suluman Chimbetu, Andy Muridzo, Dereck Mpofu, Bio Mudhimba, Admire “Chief Hwenje” Sanyanga, Gudoluhle and Friends, Dubia Masters, Bolamba Culture Birds, Zondamuthakathi Dance Group, Zinja Ziyamuluman Mxolisi, and many more.

Euphoria has since gripped Maphisa, where preparations are in full swing. Serious road rehabilitation is also taking place in the area, with the Government hosting state functions.

Last year, Nembudziya Government High School in Gokwe, Midlands, hosted the 45th Uhuru Musical Gala, featuring an impressive line-up that included Simon Mutambi, Admire “Chief Hwenje” Sibanda, Suluman Chimbetu, Andy Muridzo, Clement Magwaza, Argatha Murudzwa, Shantel Sithole, Jah Signal, the Mbare Chimurenga Choir, Sandra Ndebele, and Peter Moyo.

This time around, attention will again be on musical greats led by Skuza and Black Umfolosi, led by former freedom fighter Socha Moyo. The Black Umfolosi leader operated in the area under the ZIPRA forces before he crossed to Zambia, where he received further training. Musically, he has also toured the area and commands a loyal following.

This year promises even more fun, with a star-studded line-up set to grace the event.
