A 67-year-old man from Zhovhe area has been jailed for an effective 15 years for raping a 14-year-old mentally challenged girl.
The man who cannot be named to protect the complainant is accused of having sexually abused his victim in August last year.
Although he denied the charges, Beitbridge regional magistrate Ms Charity Maphosa convicted him on the strength of overwhelming State evidence.
Prosecuting, Mr Willbrought Muleya said on 8 August the complainant and her sister went to play at the man’s homestead at Zhovhe Farm.
He said the man offered the two breakfast after which he dragged them to the busy area where he raped the 14 year old while the sister watched.
Later in the day he raped the victim again in his shack.
The matter was later reported to the complainant’s mother who alerted the police who swiftly arrested the accused person.
