Man accused of raping co-tenant

A 19-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man appeared in court for allegedly raping his co-tenant’s 13-year-old daughter.

The accused person of Lovendale in Umguza District, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the complainant, appeared before Western Commonage regional magistrate Mr Pasipanodya Maturure facing a rape charge

He was remanded in custody to January 13 for trial.
Prosecuting, Ms Melissa Dube said that the alleged offence occurred on January 3, at around 3 PM.

“On that particular day, the accused waited for the complainant in town as she returned from her rural home,” said Ms Dube.

The court heard that the two proceeded to a house in Upper Rangemore. Upon arrival, the accused person allegedly raped the victim.

A police report was made, leading to the arrest of the accused person. The complainant was subsequently referred to hospital for medical attention.
