A MAN was bashed to death by a mob which found him in possession of a rabbit and a turkey in the early hours of the morning.

His colleague is detained at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital where he is receiving treatment.

The two were bashed by a mob, which also used burning plastics to assault them, because they were suspected to be thieves.

Richard Mahanzu, 30, of Ushewokunze, died on arrival at hospital.

His colleague, Trevor Matombo, 30, also of Ushewokunze, was also assaulted.

The two were then taken to a Bible College, along Amalinda Road in Glen View 7, where they were also assaulted by those who stay at the college.

The mob claimed the duo had confessed that they had stolen the rabbit and turkey from the Bible College.

College security guard Johanne Musengi, 61, asked some students to take the two men to Glen Norah Police Station.

A case was reported under RRB 6938479.

One of the eyewitnesses, Malvern Mudziwepasi, 32, said he was at his work place where he repairs tyres and is a guard at Muzambi complex along Masvingo Road, opposite Mbudzi cemetery, in Fidelity.

“At around 0100hrs, whilst I was at work with my brother, we saw the two who identified themselves as Dennis Mhanzi, who is now the deceased, and Curthbert Manzi, passing through.

“One was holding a turkey and the other holding a rabbit.

“We confronted them and they claimed that they got the rabbit and turkey from their aunt, who owes them.

“While interrogating the two, a lorry with about six men arrived.

“The occupants started to assault the two with booted feet, open hands, burning them with plastics.

“They asked the two where they had stolen the rabbit and the turkey and they confessed that they stole the rabbit and turkey at a church.

“They were thrown into the lorry and they were driven to AMFIC, along Amalinda Road, in Glen View 7, where the two had said they had stolen the rabbit and turkey,” said Mudziwepasi.
