A MAN allegedly raped his neighbour’s wife, assaulted the husband and set their cabin on fire in Dzivarasekwa Extension on Wednesday.
Police said Godwilson Manake also kidnapped the woman after the attack.
According to investigations, Manake had been proposing to his neighbour’s wife for some time but was always being turned down.
Enraged by the rejection, he allegedly woke up at around 2am, broke into the couple’s cabin and attacked them while they were asleep.
Police say he used a chain to assault the husband, who fled from the room.
Manake then allegedly forced a dish towel into the wife’s mouth before raping her without protection.
After the assault, Manake allegedly set the cabin on fire, destroying property worth an estimated US$500.
He then allegedly dragged the woman to a bushy area.
The woman is yet to be found.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the case.
“Police arrested a Dzivarasekwa Extension man for multiple cases that includes assault, kidnapping and malicious damage of property,” Insp Chakanza said.
He added that the kidnapped woman’s whereabouts were still unknown.
“The husband was referred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospital for medical attention. Total value destroyed is US$500 and nothing has been recovered,” Insp Chakanza said.
