A 28-YEAR-OLD Zvishavane man was arrested after allegedly beating his niece (6) resulting in her death.
The child had failed to write her name when he was assisting her to do homework.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest of Takudzwa Wellington Chimutsa in connection with the murder case that occurred at Koisvoro Village, Zvishavane, on 18 January.
Comm Nyathi said the case showed a frightening level of ignorance and cruelty.

“The suspect allegedly assaulted his six year old niece after she failed to write her name,” he said.
“Following the assault, the victim’s condition deteriorated, prompting the suspect to seek spiritual guidance from a local prophet who advised them to return home.”

The suspect later took the victim to Zvishavane District Hospital, when her condition deteriorated, where she died upon admission.
Comm Nyathi said investigations are continuing and the suspect will appear in court soon.
