A MUTARE man appeared in court on Tuesday, facing fraud and three other charges, after allegedly siphoning nearly US$62 000 from a prominent technology and mobile phone retail company where he was employed.
Wilson Nyamande, who was represented by Mutare lawyer, Mr Christopher Ndlovu of Gonese and Ndlovu Legal Practitioners, was granted US$1 000 bail, and remanded out of custody to November 16.
According to the State papers, Nyamande allegedly misappropriated the company funds over a period stretching from 2024 to 2026, with the alleged offences coming to light following an audit.
He was employed by Village Tech.
The State alleges that after the audit exposed the suspected financial irregularities, Nyamande became evasive for about two weeks.
He is further accused of using the proceeds of the alleged fraud to purchase three commuter omnibuses and a white Mercedes-Benz.
The State is expected to call more than 15 witnesses during the trial, several of whom are reportedly Nyamande’s former workmates.
The prosecution is expected to rely on the company’s audit findings, financial records and testimony from witnesses to establish how the money was allegedly obtained and used.
