A BURGLAR who slipped into a bedroom and allegedly fondled the private parts of a woman who was sleeping with her young child before stealing US$100, has appeared in court.
Mpumelelo Nzima from Bulawayo’s Cowdray Park suburb pleaded not guilty to theft and indecent assault before Bulawayo magistrate Challenge Mahembe.
Nzima allegedly arrived at the house with a bag of condoms.
He snatched US$100 and fled when the woman woke up to find him breathing heavily in her bed.
“Your Worship, on that particular day, I was not in Bulawayo, I was in Lupane where I had gone to visit my relatives. I deny the crime,” he said. Representing the State Sibusisiwe Sithole told the court that on 11 December last year the accused went to complainant’s home in the same neighbourhood and got into the bedroom through a window.
“He slipped through a window and landed on the bed of the complainant. The complainant was sleeping with her daughter, Nzima got into her blankets and fondled her private parts and the woman woke up to find him playing with her private parts. She screamed for help, causing Nzima to bolt out of the room and speed off, leaving behind his tennis shoes and unused condoms,” she said.
The prosecutor told the court that on the following day, he returned at around 1130 PM and gained entry through the window.
“He found the complainant sleeping with her daughter and combed through the room and stumbled on US$100 and stole it. The woman woke up when he was leaving the room. She shouted for help but Nzima fled,” she said.
