A 29-YEAR-OLD Chinese national yesterday appeared in court on allegations of stealing US$212 165 from his employer.

Wangu Zhiming was facing theft charges when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi.

He was remanded in custody to today for bail application.

The court heard that on May 22, 2024, the complainant, STC Chemicals, conducted an audit with the aid of financial software and discovered that there was a sum of US$212 165 received by Zhiming from different customers, which include Keepers Kwekwe, Tariro Mining, E Nyamambi’s company, Prilla, Tedglad Kwekwe company, Noberg, Crest, Sunmoostar company, Alice Mine and Pulse Tech company on behalf of the complainant.

It is alleged that from the period extending from January 2022 to February 2024, Zhiming had been collecting the money.

It is the State’s case that after receiving the funds, with no permission from the complainant, Zhiming diverted it to his own use and failed to hand it over to the complainant.

A report was made leading to his arrest.
