A 35 year old man from Beitbridge has been sent to prison for 15 years after he waylaid and raped a form 2 pupil at Chamnanga Secondary School in Beitbridge, Matabeleland South.

Prosper Ndou pleaded not guilty to the charges when he appeared before Beitbridge regional magistrate Ms Charity Maphosa on Wednesday but he was convicted on the strength of State’s evidence.

Ndou was left with an effective 15 years imprisonment after the magistrate conditionally suspended two years from the 17 years jail term.

Prosecuting, Mr Willbrought Muleya said sometime in April this year the complainant was walking from her homestead to the local business centre.

Along the way Ndou saw her walking on a foot path in a bushy area.

He then laid an ambush and grabbed her from behind as she passed through.

After-which he dragged the complainant to a secluded area in the bush and raped her once while threatening to kill her if she screamed to alert other community members.

Ndou then went away and the complainant went and reported the matter to one of the female teachers at her school.

The teacher then alerted the police who swiftly arrested Ndou.
