A TRAGIC accident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday when a 24-year-old man was fatally struck by a goods train bound for Mozambique. The victim, identified as Morelife Manyawu, died on the spot.

Acting Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the deceased’s identity and revealed that the train was being operated by Thomas Flavio, of Machipanda Station in Manica, Mozambique.

The train was travelling from Marondera.

“Upon reaching a railway crossing area near Jeff Road in Chikanga, Flavio saw Manyawu walking along the railway and sounded a horn, but he continued walking on the railway and was hit by the train and fell outside the railway,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.

The train came to a stop a few metres beyond the point of impact.

Flavio disembarked to assess the situation and discovered that Manyawu was already dead.
The incident was reported to Chikanga ZRP.
