A 44-year-old Harare man has appeared in court accused of diverting US$121 500 entrusted to him by a friend to purchase a house in Zimbabwe on his behalf while he was in Zambia.
Ronaldo Sunungurai Chirochangu appeared before Harare Magistrate Mrs Marehwanazvo Gofa facing a charge of theft of trust property.
The State alleges that on April 22, 2026, the complainant, Mr Martin Masawi, agreed with Chirochangu to buy a house in Zimbabwe while he was in Lusaka, Zambia.
Mr Masawi allegedly deposited US$121 500 into Chirochangu’s American bank account for the purchase.
The court heard that Chirochangu received the money and undertook to carry out the transaction.
However, after the agreed deadline had passed, he allegedly became evasive and unreachable on his cellphone.
Chirochangu was arrested on October 13 after the complainant was informed that he had been spotted at a restaurant in Harare’s central business district.
The State alleges that the total value involved was US$121 500, nothing was recovered.
Upon his arrest, Chirochangu was positively identified by the informant.
