A SENIOR manager at Old Mutual, Musa Nyasha Dube Manyika (41), has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of two counts of raping a university student who was on attachment.

Manyika, who served as the business development manager, was represented by his lawyer, Mr Takudzwa Nyambira.

He was found guilty following a full trial before regional magistrate Mrs Fadzai Matumbu-Mtombeni.

The court heard that the first incident occurred in November 2022 when the 24-year-old student received a WhatsApp message from Manyika, asking her to report to Old Mutual Gardens to assist with packing banners.

Upon her arrival, she went to the basement, where the banners were stored.

After completing the task, Manyika lured the student to his office, locked the door and sexually assaulted her by pushing her onto a table and raping her.

The second incident took place on June 19, 2024, when Manyika contacted the complainant  again.

This time, they met at Ashbrittle Shops, where Manyika, who was in charge of the Old Mutual Scholarship programme, invited the complainant into his car.

He then engaged in sexual intercourse with her against her will.

The victim later reported the incidents to the police, leading to Manyika’s arrest and subsequent trial.
