MINISTER of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza, has urged residents to maintain peace and continue with their normal daily activities amid reports of planned demonstrations scheduled for today (Friday), assuring the public that security measures have been put in place to safeguard lives and property.
Addressing journalists in Mutare yesterday, Advocate Mugadza appealed to communities across the province to remain calm, law-abiding and focused on activities that promote socio-economic development.
He said peace and stability remain essential for the uninterrupted delivery of public services such as education, healthcare, commerce and worship.
“My foremost concern is the safety, security and well-being of every resident of Manicaland. I therefore appeal to all citizens to remain peaceful, calm and responsible,” said Minister Mugadza.
He urged residents to carefully consider the implications of participating in activities that could potentially disrupt community life.
“Before making any decision to participate in public activities, I encourage everyone to consider their personal safety, the well-being of their families and the potential impact on their communities. Peace and stability are essential for our schools, hospitals, businesses, places of worship and all the services on which we depend,” he said.
Minister Mugadza emphasised the importance of resolving differences through lawful and peaceful means.
“We should reject violence, destruction of property, intimidation and any conduct that places lives at risk. Differences of opinion should always be expressed in ways that respect the law and the rights of others,” he said.
The minister also warned against relying on unverified information circulating on social media platforms, saying misinformation often fuels unnecessary fear and uncertainty.
“Social media can spread rumours and misinformation very quickly, creating confusion and anxiety. I urge members of the public to rely on credible and official sources of information and to avoid sharing unverified reports,” he said.
He challenged young people to channel their energy towards productive activities that contribute to personal and national development.
“To our youths, you are the future of this province and our nation. Your energy, creativity and determination are needed in building stronger communities, advancing education, growing businesses and creating opportunities for future generations. I encourage you to make choices that contribute positively to your future and to the development of our province,” said Advocate Mugadza.
He also called on parents, traditional leaders, religious leaders, community leaders and civil society organisations to continue promoting dialogue, tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
Minister Mugadza said law enforcement agencies across the province remains vigilant and prepared to maintain public order.
“Our security forces across the seven districts of the province remain on high alert and are prepared to act in accordance with the law to maintain peace and protect citizens and property. I appeal to all residents to continue with their lawful daily activities and support efforts aimed at preserving harmony within our communities,” he said.
He added that sustained peace was critical for economic growth and community development.
“Together we can ensure that Manicaland remains a province where families thrive, businesses grow and citizens have opportunities to prosper. Let us continue to work together in unity, mutual respect and peace for the benefit of present and future generations,” he said.
Speaking at the same briefing, ZANU PF Manicaland provincial chairman, Cde Tawanda Mukodza, called on residents, particularly young people, to focus on productive economic activities rather than participating in demonstrations.
He said national development required stability and urged citizens to safeguard gains being made in infrastructure, education, health and economic development.
“This is the time to focus on building our communities and improving livelihoods. Development can only flourish in an environment of peace and stability,” said Cde Mukodza.
He also expressed confidence in the capacity of security agencies to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of residents across the province.
