Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Advocate Itayi Ndudzo has commissioned Manyaira bridge in ward 10 of Marondera district, which is key in connecting communities with service providers in the Chihota, Mahusekwa and surrounding areas.

The bridge was constructed by the Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (RIDA), with funds from the Zimbabwe National Road Authority (ZINARA).

Part of the funds were also used to rehabilitate roads in the Chihota area. In his recent remarks during the commisioning event, Advocate Ndudzo thanked the Second Republic under President Mnangagwa for prioritising infrastructure development across Zimbabwe.

Adv Ndudzo said Manyaira Bridge is a fulfilment of the mantra “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo”, and applauded various partners who contributed with resources for the project to be a success.

“Manyaira Bridge gives practical meaning to the philosophy, “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo” a nation is built by its own people,” he said.

“Development is at its strongest when Government, communities and committed partners work together, each contributing to a shared vision. What we commission today is not only a bridge; it is evidence of what collective effort can accomplish. Our commitment must be that no community is left behind.

“Development should reach beyond our towns and main roads, into the villages and neighbourhoods where people live, work and raise their families. Every resident deserves safer, easier movement and access to the opportunities that can improve their lives.

To the people of Manyaira, Nenguwo, the surrounding villages 3 and Mahusekwa: this bridge belongs to you. Let us protect and care for it so that it continues to serve present and future

generations. I am pleased to officially commission Manyaira Bridge. May it stand as a lasting link between our communities and a symbol of a nation build by its people.”

RIDA’s Provincial Director for Mashonaland East Mr Cephasa Mudavanhu said they will continue fulfilling their mandate of bringing development across the rural areas in Mashonaland East province.

He said besides the Manyaira bridge, RIDA is also carrying out other projects across the province.

“We implemented this project and we started it in 2024, with funds from ZINARA. We also managed to rehabilitate gravel roads in this area,” he said.

“We also have projects in Murehwa and in Chikomba districts. Our aim is to contribute in the attainment of Vision 2030. We want everyone to have easy access to markets and key institutions like schools and clinics.”
