HUNDREDS of people this morning gathered at Dombotombo Hall, Marondera, to add their voices and views to the constitutional amendment bill.
The Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No. 3) Bill, 2026, published in February 2026, proposes significant changes to the nation’s governance, including extending Presidential and Parliamentary terms from five to seven years.
Now Parliament is conducting public hearings in all provinces to hear people’s views on the amendments.
For Marondera, residents started arriving at the venue as early as 8 am. People took turns to air their views, with the majority pledging their unwavering support to the amendment.
“Yes, I am in total support of the bill, and I also support President Mnangagwa’s vision of an upper-middle-income society by 2030,” said Mrs Bettu Rundiro.
“Our President should be given two more years in office, he is doing a great job and extending his term to 2030 is by no doubt the most reasonable gesture we can do to ensure smooth continuity of developmental works across Zimbabwe.
“The other thing that I like also about our President in that of being gender sensitive. Women are now in a lot of positions of influence. This should continue. So yes, I am absolutely supporting this bill amendment.”
Ms Sheilla Mavhuto, a youth from Marondera weighed in saying the Second Republic is empowering youths all over, thanks to the astute leadership of President Mnangagwa.
“I am a farmer based here in Marondera. Yes, I am here at this meeting to throw my support on the bill amendment. This process should succeed,” she said.
“I am a youth, and I was empowered, thanks to the President. Most people have been empowered, but youth should be at the forefront in supporting this process because they are the most empowered.”
Mr Tendai Namusi said it is critical for the legislators to vote for the President.
“I totally support the amendment of this bill. This will strengthen governance. If a President is elected by legislators, then that President can work smoothly.”
