Thousands from Mashonaland East recently gathered in Mudzi District for the provincial culture day celebrations.
Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland East Advoccate Itayi Ndudzo led the celebrations, where he emphasised the importance of preserving culture as well as embracing cultural diversity.
Advocate Ndudzo challenged the people of Mashonaland East to have zero tolerance for gender-based as well as domestic violence, saying such behaviour should never have a place in society and is not found in African culture.
“I want to challenge all men here to have total respect for our women. The Government, led by President Mnangagwa, does not tolerate men who are perpetrators of domestic violence,” Advocate Ndudzo said, to the loud applause from the crowd.
Mashonaland East Chiefs Council chairman Senator NeChombo weighed in, saying African culture does not promote gender-based violence.
He said men should be at the forefront in advocating for an end to domestic and gender-based violence.
He went on to urge the people to always preserve and observe culture.
