THE Mbudzi Interchange is now 85 percent complete, Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister, Felix Mhona, has announced.
The project, which began in 2022, entails converting a big roundabout into an interchange to relieve traffic congestion in the region.
Some of the road and bridges which connect the interchange have already been opened to traffic.
The interchange is made up of 15 bridges, with 13 directly on the interchange, and two more on Amalinda Road and Harare Drive.
By last month, 11 of the 15 bridges had been completed.
Min Mhona said:
“The Mbudzi Interchange Construction Project is nearing completion, with an impressive 85 percent overall progress,” he said.
“Key ongoing work includes erosion control on the slopes, as well as the dumping, compaction, and priming of base material on Bridge Number 1 underpass.
“Once this foundational work is finished, the next steps will involve tack coating, surfacing (tarring), road markings and signage, and final clearing before opening to traffic.
“This project is steadily progressing and will soon provide improved connectivity.”
A kombi driver, Fungai Nyowani, said:
“We have been facing many challenges, especially congestion and it is my hope that with these developments that have been made at this intersection, this is going to be a thing of the past.”
A Glen Norah resident, Kudzai Benasi, said she hopes the project will be completed soon and boost their businesses.
