Mbuya Stella Chiweshe dies

MBIRA queen, Mbuya Stella Chiweshe, has died, writes Trust Khosa.

She lost her battle against cancer of the brain on Friday.

She was 76.

Burial arrangements are still underway.

Family members said she will be buried at the Mukwesha homestead in Chinyika Village, Goromonzi.

Her first husband, who was also buried in Goromonzi, succumbed to cancer in 2015.

The cultural icon, whose career spans over four decades, was also hailed for the role she played in the liberation struggle of Zimbabwe.

After the liberation struggle, she relocated to Germany where she spent years participating at international festivals.

She was also a cultural icon who promoted Zimbabwean culture both locally and abroad.
