Mhandu excited ahead of WA Cross Country Champ

CAROLINE Mhandu says she is excited to be making her debut appearance at the World Cross Country Championships on Saturday.

Mhandu, to compete in the senior women’s 10km, is one of the seven athletes that will be carrying the country’s flag at the championships in Tallahassee, Florida, United States.

Speaking before departure, she said: “I am really excited. I want to thank God for this opportunity.

“It was not an easy journey, during training I did my best. It was difficult, painful but determination kept me going.

“I am really excited; I am going to compete with well-known athletes.”

She will be out to give her best when she takes to the course on Saturday.

“This is my first time competing at the world stage. I am looking forward to the experience. It’s an opportunity for me to have a feel of what it is like competing at this level.

“I am hoping to go and do my best,” Mhandu said.
