A 52-YEAR-OLD Chinese national found himself in handcuffs the moment he stepped off an Emirates flight at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport after he allegedly indecently assaulted a female passenger mid air.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, Li Youbin was arrested on Sunday soon after the shaken complainant reported the ordeal to airport authorities.
The alleged attack took place on 21 November aboard Emirates flight EK713 from Dubai. Prosecutors say trouble started around 9AM Dubai time while the two were seated side by side. The woman was by the window while Li occupied the aisle seat.
Li allegedly tried to spark a casual chat but the woman made it clear she was not interested. Instead of backing off, he reportedly began touching her thighs and buttocks.
Startled and terrified, the woman screamed for help and flight attendants rushed to shield her from further abuse. Crew members monitored the situation closely until the aircraft touched down in Harare.
The matter was officially reported to the Zimbabwe Republic Police around 5PM and Li was immediately arrested.
Prosecutors have opposed bail insisting the accused is a flight risk. Investigations are expected to be completed by 1 December 2025.
The NPAZ reminded travellers that aircraft cabins are not law free zones and vowed that anyone who violates women in the skies or on the ground will face the full wrath of the law.
