MILESTONE College emerged the overall winner of the Robokorda International Robotics Competition 2026 after its students impressed judges with an innovative project targeting challenges in agriculture and mining.
The team won the top prize with an agri-mine robot designed for applications in both sectors.
The competition seeks to promote research and innovation while strengthening the teaching and application of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, in line with the Government’s Education 5.0 thrust.
The two-day competition, which was held at the Zimbabwe National Defence University, drew participants from across the country and Malawi.
The winners received awards and certificates of recognition, as well as a sponsored trip to India in January 2027 to represent Zimbabwe at an international robotics competition.
The Tech Titans from Rusununguko High School came second, while Robotics Foundation Limited from Malawi was third overall.
Speaking after the competition, Milestone College student Tavonga Musariri said the team was thrilled to win and earn an opportunity to represent Zimbabwe in India.
“I am more than thrilled that I am going to represent Zimbabwe in India. I am going to do my best to represent my country, raise the flag high and turn this idea into a working prototype that will help save the world,” she said.
She said the competition had provided the team with an opportunity to sharpen its technical skills while developing solutions to national challenges.
Team Malawi coach Joan Chapweteka described the team’s performance as exceptional, particularly given that it was the country’s maiden appearance at the competition.
“This is our first time here as a country. It, has really encouraged us and we will be ready to join again. As Malawi and Zimbabwe, it strengthens our relationship technology-wise,” Chapweteka said.
“It feels very good to win. We were confident that we would make it. We urge the Government to continue teaching us skills that will help us to innovate and develop our countries.”
