Senior officials from the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development have converged in Kadoma for the 2026 Mid-Term Performance Review and Second Half Reset Workshop, a strategic gathering aimed at accelerating value addition and beneficiation as Zimbabwe intensifies efforts to achieve the objectives of the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) and Vision 2030.
Held under the theme, “Accelerating Value Addition and Beneficiation for Economic Transformation,” the workshop has brought together the ministry’s top technical and administrative leadership, including Provincial Mining Directors, deputy Provincial Mining Directors, directors and senior officials from various departments responsible for driving the country’s mining sector.
The workshop, being facilitated by the Permanent Secretary for Mines and Mining Development, Dr T. U. Wushe, marks an important milestone in the ministry’s efforts to assess performance during the first half of the year while crafting strategies for the remaining months of 2026.
Representatives from key departments, including the Geological Survey Department, the Mining Cadastre and Mining Affairs Department, the Government Mining Engineer’s Office, the Metallurgy and Beneficiation Department, the Mining Promotion and Investment Directorate, the Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Unit, as well as finance, legal and human resources divisions, are participating in the high-level discussions.
The meeting comes at a time when Zimbabwe is seeking to maximise returns from its vast mineral wealth through value addition and beneficiation, a policy direction that has become central to the country’s industrialisation drive and economic transformation agenda.
Delegates are expected to deliberate on a wide range of issues, including investment promotion, mineral exploration, mine safety, environmental sustainability, employment creation, infrastructure development and the expansion of mineral value chains in key sectors such as gold, lithium, platinum and chrome.
The workshop is also expected to evaluate the mining sector’s contribution to export earnings and economic growth, while identifying measures to strengthen linkages between mining and other sectors of the economy.
The Minister of State for Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon. Mrs M. Chombo, MP, is expected to deliver remarks on provincial development priorities and the role of mining in unlocking economic opportunities within the province.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Mines and Mining Development, Hon. Dr Eng. P. Kambamura, MP, is expected to provide policy direction on the ministry’s priorities for the second half of the year, with a particular focus on beneficiation, value addition and sustainable exploitation of mineral resources.
As deliberations continue in Kadoma, expectations are high that the workshop will produce practical strategies to strengthen the mining sector’s role as a key driver of Zimbabwe’s industrialisation and its journey towards becoming an upper-middle-income economy by 2030.
