Minister Murwira arrives in New York for UNGA 81 as Zim eyes global trust and investment

Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Professor Amon Murwira has arrived in New York for the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81), marking Zimbabwe’s participation in the annual high-level week of global diplomacy.

UNGA81 is being convened under the theme “Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all.”

The Foreign Affairs Ministry said the theme directly reflects Zimbabwe’s current domestic and international trajectory.

In a statement, the ministry said the UN’s emphasis on restoring trust is also demonstrated by Zimbabwe’s recent election to the UN Security Council for the 2027–2028 term, where the country received a resounding 96 percent endorsement.

Zimbabwe’s endorsement underlines the country’s growing credibility on the global stage, with the ministry reaffirming Government’s commitment to advancing constructive multilateral engagement during the UNGA session.

“Furthermore, the UN’s focus on managing transformation and delivering for all aligns seamlessly with Zimbabwe’s internal shift toward technological self-reliance under Heritage-Based Education 5.0 and President Mnangagwa’s foundational philosophy of leaving no one and no place behind,” said the ministry.

To translate the diplomatic visibility into tangible economic returns, Zimbabwe will leverage the UNGA81 to host a high-level Zimbabwe Business Forum on the sidelines.

The Forum will run under the theme “Global Challenges. Zimbabwean Solutions. Shared Prosperity”.

It will pitch the nation’s booming agriculture, mining, and tourism sectors to international financiers while reinforcing Zimbabwe’s non-adversarial foreign policy as a friend to all and an enemy to none.
