Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Advocate Itayi Ndudzo has commended the people of Mashonaland East Province for coming out in their numbers during the Parliamentary Public Hearings on Constitution Amendment Bill Number 3.
The public hearings were conducted across the nine districts of Mashonaland East Province as part of the consultation process, where the Parliamentary team was seeking to gather views from citizens on the proposed amendments.
Addressing a press briefing in Marondera on Monday, Advocate Ndudzo said the consultations were a resounding success.
“Consequent to the promulgation of the Constitution Amendment Bill Number 3 of 2026, as Mashonaland East Province, we are pleased to announce that there has been a successful consultative process,” he said.
“The Parliament of Zimbabwe, which is the legislative arm of the State with the authority to take on board the views of the generality of the population in the law-making process came, we provided them with venues and we created and facilitated an environment which allows Zimbabweans from all walks of life, from all kinds of backgrounds irrespective of their creed and political affiliation to be able to express themselves freely.
“There were no mishaps, people were allowed to speak their mind without any fear. We observed that Mashonaland East Province is unanimously in full support of the provisions of the Constitutional Amendment Bill Number 3 in totality.”
He said there was overwhelming support for the bill in all nine districts.
“There was a consistent motif of overwhelming support for the bill, and it is our earnest expectation that the legislators of Zimbabwe who are in the Parliament of Zimbabwe will take on board the views of the people of Mashonaland East Province,” he said.
“As far as we are concerned, we expect that the bill will be passed into law because the law-making process must take into consideration the views of the majority of the people of Zimbabwe.
“So we now await the internal parliamentary process. The people of Mashonaland East Province are unequivocal and unambiguously supporting the Constitution Amendment Bill Number 3.”
