MINISTER of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Hon. Lt Gen (Rtd) Ambassador Anselem Sanyatwe has called on the nation to rally behind the Zimbabwe senior men’s national football team, the Warriors, as they face Benin in a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday evening in Cote d’Ivoire.
In a statement ahead of the match, Sanyatwe expressed full government support for the team and encouraged players to represent the country with pride and determination.
“Warriors, you carry with you the hopes, dreams and spirit of an entire nation. We are rallying behind you with pride and belief,” he said.
Sanyatwe urged the players to remain focused and courageous on the pitch.
“Step onto that pitch with courage, not fear. Play with heart, with honor and with the determination that defines Zimbabwean resilience.”
He also had words of encouragement for the coaching staff, led by head coach Michael Nees.
“To Coach Michael Nees and the entire technical team, your leadership and vision are vital. Steer the ship with clarity and conviction. Know that the nation stands firmly behind your efforts.”
Concluding his message, the Minister called for unity and national pride as Zimbabwe continues its quest to qualify for its first ever FIFA World Cup.
“Let this be the moment Zimbabwe rises, together, in pursuit of the World Cup dream,” he said. “Go Warriors! Make us proud!”
