South African media personality Minnie Dlamini has lifted the lid on her lavish 2017 wedding, claiming she personally forked out R1.5 million for the celebrations while her former husband, Quinton Jones, allegedly contributed nothing.
The television presenter made the revelation during an interview on Thando Thabethe’s drive show on 947, reigniting public interest in the breakdown of her marriage and the divorce proceedings that followed.
Nearly nine years after the couple exchanged vows in two high-profile ceremonies, Dlamini’s comments have brought fresh attention to the financial arrangements behind their much-publicised wedding.
The former couple tied the knot in a traditional ceremony in July 2017 before celebrating their white wedding in September that year at Lourensford Wine Estate in Somerset West, Western Cape.
Their wedding celebrations were documented in the three-part television series Minnie Dlamini: Becoming Mrs Jones, which gave viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the preparations and ceremonies.
At the time, the wedding attracted considerable attention, with reports circulating about the cost of the celebrations and the couple’s arrangements for broadcasting their special day.
However, Dlamini’s latest claims have put the spotlight on who allegedly paid for the extravagant affair.
The presenter also addressed speculation surrounding her ongoing divorce from Jones, dismissing rumours that he was seeking spousal maintenance from her.
Firmly rejecting the suggestion, Dlamini made it clear that she does not financially maintain men.
Her remarks come more than four years after the former couple publicly announced their separation in February 2022, bringing an end to their marriage after nearly five years.
In their separation announcement, the pair said they had made the decision after months of reflection, consultations with their families and counselling.
They also expressed their intention to remain friends and prioritise co-parenting their son, who was born in 2020 – IOL
