MIXED-MEDIA ARTIST VICTOR SHOWCASES WORK IN PARIS

MIXED-MEDIA artist, Victor Nyakauru, presented his work at the 10th edition of Also Known As Africa (AKAA) at Carreau du Temple, in Paris.

The art fair, held from Friday to Sunday, celebrated a decade of commitment to the art scenes of Africa and its diaspora. “I’m worked with REM Project, a gallery from Puerto Rico, and we presenting ‘Negritude’ at AKAA Art Fair 2025,” said Nyakauru.

“Negritude is a movement, which started here in Paris in the 1930s. You know, it was a black resistance movement.

“So, yeah, we are continuing with that movement, putting it into the 2000s, 2020, 2025. And my work is reflecting, like I say, my theme.

“We are trying to focus on rebuilding Negritude, we are taking it and putting it back and then it has to be global.”

In an interview with France 24, Nyakauru said his use of everyday objects creates a connection with the audience, particularly the younger generation.

“There is a growing interest in African art in the Asian continent that is very big and I appreciate that the Asians are doing much more and we encourage them to do more to look into African art, collect African art, integrate African artists and its people, its diaspora they need to learn more, know more on African art.”

Victor attended the National Gallery of Zimbabwe Visual Art Studios for his art education from 2004-7.
