FIVE suspects allegedly raided a nightclub and butchery, owned by a Member of Parliament, and stole nearly US$3,900.
It is suspected this hit was helped by employees of this business unit.
Kelvin Zulu (20), Tinotenda V. Marecha (26), Portia Ngorima (34), Pretty Ngorima (21) and Mike Vheremu (21) have been arrested and appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo, charged with theft.
According to the State, the complainant is Patricia Kundhlande (54), a Member of Parliament and businesswoman, who owns Mother Sharks Butchery and Night Club in Manresa Park, Harare.
Prosecutors allege that on Sunday, at around 0030 hours, Zulu – who allegedly had access to the safe keys – teamed up with an accomplice, Washington Sithole, who is still at large.
They stole cash from the safe at Mother Sharks Night Club in New Mabvuku.
The court heard that Marecha, a taxi driver, was waiting nearby in a Toyota Aqua, to ferry the suspects from the crime scene.
Portia and Pretty Ngorima allegedly assisted by carrying a bag into the taxi.
It is further alleged Marecha drove off with Sithole and the two women, leaving Zulu at the scene.
The pair was later dropped off at their homes after they allegedly received US$20 each as their share.
The court heard that Marecha later transported Sithole to a service station in Mabvuku, where he was handed over to Vheremu, who drove him away in another vehicle to Chivhu.
The total value of the stolen cash is US$3,874 and nothing has been recovered.
The matter came to light after Kundhlande filed a police report, leading to the arrest of the gang.
Takudzwa Jambawo prosecuted.
