AT just 22, Shaun Tafadzwa Marita, popularly known as Mr Glenora, has already made a name for himself on Zimbabwe’s comedy scene.
He grew up in Dangamvura, Murate, and moved to Harare to pursue his dreams, adopting the name “Mr Glenora” to connect with his new community.
“My sibling and I were inspired after watching Kapfupi’s drama and we realised we could create our own short film but because we lacked the necessary resources at the time we could not do it.
“Fortunately, moving to Harare opened up opportunities I never thought possible,” he said.
Mr Glenora revealed that his passion for comedy is driven by a desire to entertain people.
“I make skits because I enjoy entertaining people and because I need to make money.
“My life depends on it.
“My content mainly focuses on making people laugh and relax, often drawing inspiration from contemporary issues.
“My journey to success has not been without its challenges.”
He recalls working with managers from the United Kingdom who helped him grow to his first 70k followers.
The relationship however soured after his handlers became more possessive of his personal life.
“I was told not to get involved in any love affairs so that my account could generate money. That’s when I realised they wanted to control me, so I dropped them,” Mr Glenora said.
Despite facing discouragement from family members and neighbours, Mr Glenora persevered, driven by his determination to succeed.
His hard work has paid off with Mr Glenora landing advertising deals with major brands like EcoCash.
He hopes to reach the level of success achieved by local comedian Nigel The Slick Pastor and global sensation Kelvin Hart.
“Actors like Kelvin Hart inspire me because he has managed to make tons of money using his acting talent and that is why I look up to him,” Mr Glenora said.
