THE Jacob Mudenda Sports Festival roared into life in Dete on Saturday morning, pulling together communities from Binga, Hwange and Dete for a high energy blend of football, netball and social upliftment.

Sponsored by Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda, the tournament has attracted eight teams in both codes, turning the usually quiet Dete into a buzzing sporting hub as talented youths showcase their skills and chase glory.

The festival is not just about competition. It is doubling as a platform to fight drug and substance abuse while also promoting men’s health awareness within the participating communities. Organisers say the combination of sport and social messaging is exactly what the region needs.
Tournament organiser Ndodana Masuku could not hide his excitement as the first whistle blew.

He said he was happy with the turnout and the energy surrounding this year’s edition of the event.
The opening football match features Shumba Stars of Dete, clad in red, taking on Zifa Matabeleland North Division Two A champions Makwika United of

Hwange in a clash expected to set the tone for the weekend.
With bragging rights, community pride and youth empowerment on the line, the Mudenda Festival has kicked off with purpose and passion, giving the region a vibrant sporting highlight to rally around.
