ZIMBABWEAN karting youngster Engelbert Mudzimba has taken an important step in his motorsport career after representing the country at the prestigious ROK Cup World Finals in Italy this last weekend, having won the 2026 ROK Cup Zimbabwe Mini ROK Championship.
Mudzimba earned his place at the World Finals through a hard-fought campaign in Zimbabwe, where he emerged victorious in the highly competitive Mini ROK category.
Winning the ROK title secured him the opportunity to fly the Zimbabwean flag on the international stage, where he faced a considerably different level of competition.
The ROK Cup World Finals brought together more than 300 competitors from 40 countries, creating a fiercely competitive environment in which emerging talents from around the world battled for international recognition.
What makes Mudzimba’s achievement particularly impressive is that he only began kart racing last year, yet has already progressed to competing against some of the world’s most talented young drivers at one of international karting’s major events.
Representing Zimbabwe against such a strong field was a significant milestone for the young driver, who was competing against rivals with considerable experience on European circuits.
Mudzimba raced with CRG Holland, one of Europe’s leading professional karting teams, providing him with an opportunity to experience the standards, preparation and technical expertise required to compete at the highest levels of the sport.
One of the biggest challenges facing Zimbabwean drivers competing in Europe is adapting to the significant differences in circuit conditions.
European tracks generally offer much higher grip levels, requiring drivers to adjust their driving styles and find the right balance between speed, tyre management and consistency. ROK Cup Zimbabwe promoter Kevin Dufty said the experience was an important part of Mudzimba’s development as a young racing driver.
“It is always a challenge for our young competitors to race in Europe as the track conditions are very different to ours due to the very high grip, which takes time to get used to.
“Engelbert made good progress through the week and had the opportunity to compete in the B Final, which was a fantastic experience for him,” said Dufty.
For Zimbabwean karting, Mudzimba’s participation also highlights the importance of the ROK Cup Zimbabwe championship in identifying and developing young talent capable of progressing beyond local competition.
For Mudzimba, the experience in Italy represents an important milestone in his motorsport journey, providing a foundation on which to build as he continues to develop his skills and pursue further opportunities on the international karting stage.
