WARRIORS defender Godknows Murwira says he is unfazed by the Warriors underdog tag ahead of Monday’s (today) clash against Egypt at the Stade de Agadir in Morocco.
The match will kick-off at 2200hrs.
Egypt are the most decorated side in the competition with seven titles while Zimbabwe, who are marking their sixth appearance at the continental showcase, have never reached the group stages.
“They are calling us underdogs, but you don’t get this far without being a team capable of winning. We are here to prove it,” said Murwira.
“First and foremost, our mission is to prove ourselves. We are very confident and ready to go.”Murwira believes their status could actually work to their advantage.
“Being an underdog helps. There’s less pressure on us. If we win, no one expected it. The other team can become overconfident, and that can be their undoing. Yeah, that’s football.”
“There is pressure on our side, especially (from) home. We need to perform for our fans. We’re playing against the giants… ”
